Red Socks Poughkeepsie

Me and Bellini went to the Foals show yesterday at the Bowery Ballroom. I think it was her first time there, we met up with Maya and 2 of her friends and had drinks in the downstairs lounge until the Epochs started. They werent bad, and the last 2 minutes of most of their songs were really good. But the rest was sort of a standard frat-rock. The dudes themselves looked like they went to Birmingham Southern and it had the feel of an ATO party from my stoney heyday. But you can do whatever you want when you open for Foals and have a guaranteed enormous crowd watching and waiting for the band after you.

Foals went on a little after 11, and we somehow got good spots in the crowd even after me and Belinda went downstairs for another round of drinks after The Epochs got done with their set. There were a bunch of Britons in the crowd last night, and we were talking to a few Londoners who were occupying the same space in the crowd with us. Foals played just about all of their best songs. I got videos for Balloons, Olympic Airways, and Red Socks Pugie. But they also played Cassius, The French Open, Hummer, Mathletics, Heavy Water, Two Steps Twice, and Electric Bloom. And everything sounded marvelous. Definitely the best show of this year so far.

Dracula Musical

I heard back from the jorb interview I had last week. I was offered a 1-year contract as a Research Coordinator at NYU/Bellevue's Sleep Disorder Clinic (aka Team Sleep) with a 35K/year salary plus benefits. And they're sending me to San Diego next month for a brain training seminar. I've been in kind of a hibernative naptosis for ahwhile, so I was pretty happy about being gainfully employed again after 4 months.

I went to go see Forgetting Sarah Marshall this afternoon after I heard the news. Is was good. Jackie from that 70s show and electric fingers lady from Heroes and Mike from SLC Punk. And Pual Rudd. Can't go wrong, really. There was also a 'Silent Rave' in Union Square this afternoon., and it had just started when i got out of the moviefilm. It was basically just a bunch of people w/ iPods dancing to their own music, or something to that effect. There's some pictures of it below.

So Post All 'Em

Me and Lexie went to the show at Studio B last night. We got some dinner at Enid's on Manhattan Ave near McCarren Park before that. YACHT and Parts & Labour were on the bill, but it was about 1/3rd the size of a normal show there. And they rearranged the space so looked less like a dance club and more like a normal one. I somehow didn't have to pay to get in, and was kind of enjoying the small club vibe (as opposed to the packed-as-fuck vibe like the last time i was there, for the HEALTH/Crystal Castles show a couple of weeks ago). The first band was a little weird, but P&L and YACHT were both good, as per usual. And both had added hot new female members to their respective bands. As you can see below. It definitely seemed more like a prom/highschool dance/private party than a show at 'club studio b'. Their rooftop garden opens soon, so that should interesting if they actually deliver on the promise of a 2nd level with a retractable roof.

Time Flys When Youre Having Rum

I went to the Young Associates party at the Chelsea Art Museum yesterday. My friend Maya helped set it up, there were a lot of people there and 2 open bars stocked full with beer, wine, and 2 kinds of rum. Dark rum, ginger ale and a splash of tonic water makes for a excellent cocktail. I had about 5 of those. And Friends with Benefits were DJing. French Kicks on Tuesday.

Foals

I took a walk through the Village this morning. Got a bite to eat at Gray's Papaya on 6th ave, then walked down to w8th, and then back up to Broadway and went to Other Music to get my ticket to the Foals show at the Bowery Ballroom on the 24th. There was a street festival on W4th and some kind of NYU drum circle thing happening in Wash Sq. Park. I got a few shots of that, and the park and street festival, got some $1 chicken satay w/ peanut sauce, and came back here. I'm very escited about the Foals show. Young Associates Party at the Chelsea Art Museum tonight.
