Your English Is Good

These are from the Monster Island Block Party, the East Village Radio Festival, the semi-secret Tokyo Police Club show at the Mercury Lounge, and Lightning Bolt at Bushwick Backyard. I also uploaded basically the entire first Tokyo Police Club EP to my Youtube Channel , and also a Big A Little a vid from EVR.

I got into the VIP for the EVR fest, thanks to my new friend Melissa Mary, and I got there in time for Big A Little A at the Todd-P side stage, and Boris on the main stage. The TPC show was later that night, I had been wanting to see them for a couple of years now and I have a new appreciation for Elephant Shell after seeing them live. Monster Island was fun, even with Hurricane Hanna looming outside, coating Brooklyn with a warm tropical rain. The only annoying part was goddamn hipster Wavy Gravy fucking up the sound during the Ex Models' set. And Lightning Bolt wasn't as good as the 2 shows I went to the summer that I first got here, but it was still Lightning Bolt.

Tomorrow is The French Kicks & Passion Pit at Bowery Ballroom, Friday is the FOTP No Big Deal party at Alphabeta in Greenpoint, Saturday its These Are Powers & Marnie Stern at the Silent Barn, Sunday is Pinback at the Bowery once again, and then the Dodos on Monday at the new Spiegelworld venue at the Seaport, which looks amazing. That is all.

Dong Bu

I went to Boston this weekend to help my sister get moved into her new dorm at BU. Her bday was on Friday so I took her and moms out to this French / Cambodian / Vegan restaurant downtown called The Elephant Walk. And I helped her get settled in and we got lunch at Noodle Skreet on the main drag of the university before I headed back to NYC.

I went to a Oxford Collapse record release party the Thursday before that, with streamers and piñatas and things. And I got back to the city around 8 on Saturday, just in time for the triple-billed noisepunk round robin at the Market Hotel. Big A Little A, Pterodactyl, and Parts & Labor were all playing, at the same time, playing one song each and going around the room. I ran into Morgan and Paige from Bham there, who were there to see Aa and were loyal to them. Most of the crowd was spinning in circles going around to see each of the bands. I went on a beach trip on Sunday, and then to a Labor Day BBQ Jam at Asterisk Art Space in Bushwick on Monday, by the McKibben Lofts. Will Scott was DJing, and my friend Joe lives there, apparently.

The weekend before that I went to go see Professor Murder, Free Blood, and Pink Skull at the Music Hall, and then to see Ponytail at the Knitting Factory before DJing to a packed bar at the Hanger (RIP) that night. Then on Sunday I went to go see Yo La Tengo at McCarren before going to Alphabeta that night to a party hosted by a bunch of Venezuelan skater kids selling Santa Salsa. They had a really good South American skate biddy playing in the courtyard, and Japanther & Ninjasonik playing inside. I think that's about it. I turned 25 on Wednesday, but this whole month is my birfday. Oneida & Ex Modelos on Monster Island on Saturday, secret Tokyo Police Club show at the Merc Lounge on Sunday. Cheers.
