So I Parallel Double Parked That Motherfucker Sideways

I went to the Zach Galifianakis-hosted Les Savy Fav Show/indie rock trivia night that New York Magazine was putting on at the Highline Ballroom in Chelsea on Wednesday. I got there late to trying to catch the tail end of the trivia part and the beginning of the LSFavy goodness, but Zatch had just started his monologue when I got there. Which was great since he is a comedian of comedy and all, but the trivia itself was too long and not very well organized, what with people blurting out answers and being douches (i.e. the eventual winners), although FOTP Greg was on the 2nd place team (dubbed Patty Lee), which was respectable. The show itself was most good, w/ Tim Harrington coming out on stage as everyone's favorite 4th grade science teacher, Mr. Z.

And Mr. Z and his band played songs from almost every album that they've spawned since 1997. Scout's Honor from 3/5, The Slip and Who Rocks The Party from The Cat & The Cobra, The Sweat Descends And Yawn 3x from Inches, Rome from the Emor EP, and Patty Lee and What Would Wolves Do from Let's Stay Friends. I have video for 3 of those, though it was kind of hard to film them w/ Tim jumping into and out of the crowd whenever he thank you pleased. But theys came out good for the most part. It's an neverending quest of mine to see them play a couple of songs that I haven't heard live yet. Those being Reprobate's Resumeh (my personal fav), Blackouts on Thursday, and Reformat. Also, I don't think I've seen an LSF show in Bklyn proper yet, which will hopefully change soon.

On Thursday I went to a Free wine/Ra Ra Riot's show/Live Art Battles/FOTP Party in SoHo on Greene street, which is like 5 blocks away from the apt. The 2 artistes there were creating works on the spot, and one of them did an killer rendition of flavor flaaaave and won the battle. And I had lots of cups of south Australian wines and Hors d'oeuvres and met FOTP's DJ friend Dominic, whose playing with them on Friday the 13fth next month. And Ra Ra Riot played to close out the party.

Last night I went to dinner w/ my dad and this old Indian mans who he plays tennis with. He won the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for math last year, which comes with a $920,000 reward. For being good at maffs. After that I went to Maya's place in the East Village and got drinks w/ her and Lexie at this place called Louis on Ave B. They had a giant bottle of Brooklyn Local One, but it wasnt as good as the Bklyn Weisse or Pilsner. I thought about going to the Susu loft party on Greenpoint Ave, but it was late already and I had gone out every day this week, so I cabbed it home. The end.

Double Double Animal Style w/ a Chocolate Shake

I went on a bidness trip to San Diego this week. We left from JFK on Monday morning and got picked up at the SD airport and driven to Carlsbad by one of the techs. I hadn't been to California in a long time, but I have family out there so it's like my other other home. We were staying at the Grand Pacific Palisades Hotel/Resort in Carlsbad, which was a few miles from the company that supplies us the EEG-monitoring equipment at Team Sleep. Our flight was delayed on the ground for about an hour b/c of the airplane take-off traffic jam at JFK, so we didnt get to ABM until like 330 after stopping for lunch on the way over from San Diego through La Jolla. So we met the crew and worked for like an hour and a half that day.

Then me and Nikia went to this Tuscan/Italian restaurant down the skreet from our hotel called Bellefleur. And used our per diem for a cornucopia of food, wine, and martinis. Calamari fritti, cheese medley, veggie risotto, filet mignon, pinot noir, palm one martinis, etc. Melissa from ABM picked us up on Tuesday morning and we went to the most laid back Starbucks that I have ever seen. People actually sitting and enjoying their coffee and talking. When we got there we learned how the AMP system is supposed to be run for when we got back to New York. And we got another laptop and briefcase to take back with us.

On a break me and this other tech Camille went to lunch at the In 'N Out Burger in Carlsbad. I hadn't been to one of those since I was 16 and living in Pasadena w/ my great aunt Soma for a couple of months. I got the double double animal style w/ a chocolate shake, and it was pretty amazing. When we got done at ABM we went back to the hotel for a bit and then to the Karl Strauss Restaurant/Brewery, which shared a parking lot w/ the Palisades. I don't really remember what we had there, but there was a really tasty amber lager, and a few other things. We flew back Wednesday afternoon and it took about 11 hours to get back to new york, using every kind of transport available except a fucking boat. It was fun though. The end.

SPR

I went to go see the Ex Models & Oneida at Secret Project Robot in Bklyn last night. It was a last minute benefit show for Eat Records. The last time I went to SPR was for Oneida's Brahloween show a couple of months ago, but that was at a difference space over on Kent near Glasslands. This SPR venue was on River and Metropolitan attached to this art space called Live With Animals. There was an art opening before the show and I ran into some people that I met while standing in line for an Oneida show at Southpaw last fall.

Ex Models started a little after 9 and they were playing in another formation, this time w/ just Zach and Shah on guitars and Kid Millions on drums. I have some some video for 2 of the songs from Chrome Panthers. Oneida was on next and played all new songs, including Ghost In The Room and a half-hour suite called Pre-Teen Weaponry. The show was over around 11, but there was a loft party off the Morgan Ave stop on the L in Flushing. Knyfe Hyts, Red Dawn II, Used To Be Women, and The Library Is On Fire were on the bill there. Wolfy from Red Dawn II gave me some tequila for giving his friend directions to the party earlier that night at SPR, and I gave Bobby Matador directions to the surbway outside a bodega at like 330 in the morning after the party. MSTRKRFT/LA Riots tomorrow.
