Revolution Baby

Japanther show at the Harket Motel last night. Didn't get there til like 1045 so I think I missed Bongladesh. The NZ band Bachelorette was on when I got there. I hadnt eaten anything so I went to the Popeyes down the skreet, and missed all but the last Pterodactyl song because of it. Which was unfortunate, b/c The Pharmacy from Seattle were on after them and they were kind of irritating. So I left again and went to get a quart of some fine Messican Carte Blanca beea for $2 fitty. But before I left I talked to Ian from Japanther and made sure that they were playing last, and they were. So I got back from my beer run and this happened:

Alice Practice

I went to the HEALTH/Crystal Castles show at Studio B in Greenpoint yesterday. I met up w/ B and got there a few minutes before Health started. I really like their song Heaven, and I'm glad they played it, but they probably would be better suited playing in a smaller club that wasn't like the Hipster Bellbottoms of Brooklyn. Luckily they are playing at the Market Hotel on the 1st w/ Aa and an especial guest.

That was the first show ive been to in awhile thats been in a giant club like that. Crystal Castles was perfect in that setting though. They took awhile to come out but when they did it looked like something straight out of a scene in the L Word, i.e. a club full of people going nuts for the atari-electro jams. We didn't stay for the whole thing, but they were good live. It kind of sounded like the Juan Maclean, which was very nice. And I got a good graffiti shot on the way back to Bedford.

Sheets of Easter

So after the Pillow Fight For Tibet (PFFT) i went to Todd P's SXSW Homecoming show at the Market Hotel in Booshwick. Bands were coming in from SF, Baltimore, Ontario, and.. Brooklyn. Citay was the SF band, who have one of the members from The Fucking Champs, and lots of nice layered acoustic and electric guitar sounds.

These Are Powers were next and came to do their patented brand of GhostPunk, which sounded most escellent in the giant triangle loft setting. Old Time Relijun, who I really like now, were after them and im going to see if their albums are as good as their live shows. Oneida closed out the night with maybe one of the best sets ever, and the show went until 3 am. They didn't play Sheets of Easter but they did play lots of other choice krautrocky goodness.

Pillow Fight For Tibet

I went to Union Square this afternoon after hearing about a giant pillow fight that was starting at 3 pm. I met up with Blini at Bite and we walked to 14th, and we could see the feathers flying from 11th street. I took most of the these in and around the square. And then all of a sudden a stream of people holding Tibetan flags showed up and started marching and chanting around the square. So theres a few pictures of that as well. Only in New York would these 2 two things happen simultaneously in the same 5 block radius. Market Hotel show tonight. Cheers.
