Hundred Dollar Baby

My dad is going on sabbatical in London next year, from June to December of '08. He wants to sublet the apartment to me while he's gone, so I'll need to find someone who can pay half the rent and wants to live in the village for 6 months. Shouldn't be too difficult. I went to the Bowery Ballroom last night for to see Celebration/ Holy Fuck with Wrisley and her friend Maya. I think it was my first time there since Les Savy Fav. Effi Briest opened the show with their many-types-of-brooklyn-hipster-girl psychedelia. I saw them last month when they opened up for the Go! Team @ Studio B. They were a little better last night. Holy Fuck was amazing, kind of like a Canadian Hot Chip meets Tussle. And Celebration was halfway between the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TVOTR, which is a good place to be. Pics from the show and video of War by Celebration, which is the first song on their first album. They ended the show with that. And I think one of the 17 members of Antibalas is in this video too. He's the little trumpeter mans at the right of the stage. Enjoy.

Slurms Mackenzie

So I'm not going to be helping old people not fall down anymore. Something about the grant being in trouble and PI's changing projects and bringing in a clinician who can do the home visits by themselves. I don't know. But I have another jorb lined up in January, so that means I have 3 wks to focus on GRE bizness before I take it on the 15th, and then 3 wks of vacay time in bhammy w/o having to worry about making up hours when i get back to the city. So at least the timing was good. And i get my paycheck in a couple of days. Which is good b/c ill be busy for the next 4 days.

Tonight was good also. Belinda got back and we hung out at her place and drank jumbo red stripes and potato wodka and watched weeds & proj run on my DVR at the apartment from her mac in Brooklyn, thanks to my magical slingbox. But I should go to sleep now since I'm technically still employed until the end of the week. Cheers.

Tooth Hurty

Yeah, my dad is like the dean of the college of dentistry at NYU, and I have a gotham cavity. I'm bringing shame to my elders. But at least I was more productive today than I was for all of Thnxgiving week. I think its going to be a good couple of days. Me and Wrizzle are going to see Celebration & Holy Fuck at the BBallroom on Wednesday. And I got some new musica. These Are Powers, The Teenagers? Hwoot.

Momofuku

So I went to get a haircut today. I havent let anyone besides heather consuela touch my hair for the past year and a half. But I found this little barbar shop on christopher skreet in the west village and this nice puerto rican gay mans did a good job. After that i walked from the west village back to noho, through wash square park & st. mark's place, and to this vietnamese noodle place in the east village on 1st ave & 10th called Momofuku. I met my friend sugarbear cannon there and had some adventurous eats like pork belly w/ daikon and pickled mustard seed and the momofuku noodlz w/ a berkshire pork combo and a poached eggy. Then we came back to greenwich and watched fargo on the wallscreen at the apartment. I wanted to go to the new coen bros movie tonight, but there was no time. I probably will later this week. Thats all please.

Death By Audio

I went to the These Are Powers/Clipd Beaks/Shooting Spires show @ Death By Audio in Williamsburg on Saturday night. It was my first time there. I thought it was a custom pedal shoppe for some reason. Its not. Nice space though. I'm seeing the Ex-Models/Marnie Stern there on Thursday night. I got to meet Anne from These Are Powers and Zach from Ex-Models after the show, and BJ was handing out some derishus chocolate chip pumpkin cookies. Clipd Beaks were good as well, like a more danceable These Arms Are Snakes. Pictures below.
