Kid City

It's been a busy weekend. Free show at the Seaport on Friday, which was the tip of the iceberg. 15+ bands at the midsummer outdoor party at the Yard on Saturday, and the final night of the Fuck Yeah Fest on Sunday. Abe Vigoda, No Age, and Telepathe played on Friday, and 2/3rds of those bands plus Knyfe Hyts, Crystal Antlers, Ninjasonik, Ponytail, Shy Child, High Places, Titus Andronicus, and Oneida played at the Yard. FOTP, The Brothers Frentz, William Donovan, and a handful of bham southside kids were all there. After the show me and Natalia went to dinner at Black Betty before going to to Zebulon to see Ann Arbor, Michigan's finest afrobeat band, Nomo. And then, much later, me and Barret went to a giant warehouse costumedanceparty in bushwick on Bogart & Scholes. I think it was a gods & goddessess party or something because everyone was dressed up as angels & devils and what have you. It was pretty fucking surreal. I felt like I was in one of those movies about ecstasy.

Sunday was Team Robes and Monotonix at Club Exit. I missed Japanther (they played at like 745 for some reason) and left before Matt & Kim because I was exhausted. but the Panther and the Deathset are playing the Market Hotel next Monday, with Mae Shi and Ponytail. And I met one of the residents of the Market Hotel at the show on Saturday. Monotonix were one of the most ridiculous live bands I've seen, I don't think they were actually on stage or stationary in one place in the crowd any any point during their set. And the drummer was crowd surfing w/ his drums. I have a feeling that next weekend will be even more epic somehow. Lorena gets in Wednesday, Ted Leo & The Fiery Furnaces play free shows at Castle Clinton on Thursday, Deerhoof & the Metropolis Ensemble remix the Rite of Spring on Friday before the Knyfe Hyts/Red Dawn II Champagne Party at Death By Audio. Siren Fest Saturday afternoon followed by me and Belinda DJing one of Casey's shindigs that night. And then the motherfucking Liars on Sunday at McCarren Pool. Good time.

Fresh and Delicious Ices

I went to go see The Wackness yesterday. It was really good. The main guy looked like Peter Petrelli from Heroes. Best friend girl from Juno was in it as a hot brunette stepdaughter. Famke Janssen as the mom. Ben Kingsley as a psychiatrist pothead Dr. Jeffrey Squires, MD. Method Man as a haitian drug dealer named Perse. Mary Kate Olsen as a hippie. NYC in 1994. 40s and Zs. Guilianni. I saw it on a little bit of mushroom tea w/ Killa B and Sexie Lexie, and then went to Dos Caminos for Parton margs w/ blood orange and Cointreaux. And then to Booshwick to hang out on McKibben Skreet, and later Ft. Greene for cuban sammiches and corn at the Habana Outpost. Thursday was a get-drunk night at Legion.

Friday was the mid-afternoon show at The Yard in the BK. Power Douglas, Double Dagger, The Apes, Ponytail, Marnie Stern, and Indian Jewelry. Free Soco and PBR and ice tweem. Pfork TV was there filming so I may be on the interwebs. Which is good b/c I didn't have my camera for the show. After that it was cataract fireworks from a 12th floor rooftop just below Union Square, followed by hanging out in the East Village and going to Santo's Party House for nnsting. Wimbledon Final now. Cheers.

Stuyvesant Cove

This weekend has sort of been a bust. I missed A Place To Bury Strangers at the Seaport on Friday, and King Khan & The Shrines were sort of dissapointing. But fried tiny buns, margaritas and Max Fish made up for that later in the evening. And then on Saturday Citysol was running late because of the rain delay, so Dan Deacon had to cancel and Ecstatic Sunshine played a short set sans Dustin Wong. And then the massive Todd P Roosevelt Island BBQ also got postponed today thanks to the inclement weather. But it wasn't a total loss. And the Studio BBQ on Thursday was fun. Watching the Euro Cup Final now. Cheers.
